Shrieking Down the Solar Wind
Science and fiction conspire together, and the most outrageous imaginings of my childhood idol Isaac Asimov are as nothing compared to the most sober technology today.
Yes, it is a cliche to expound upon the speed of change, except that it is increasing, and I believe more than linearly, and as the frequency of change increases so too do the complexity of its consequences.
This is a site devoted to sober scientific fact and all of its ramifications.
Granted, we are nowhere near space colonies yet. But the obstacles are economic and politcal not technological, for the most part. This is not to dispute those who would give greater priority to Head Start than to NASA, for human capital is just as important as infrastructure, quite outside the imperatives of empathy.
And So It Goes, says Vonnegut.
Wherever we are, we need to feed out children. It is the human needs that need to be met to make space travel possible...We can send unmanned spacecraft to the edges of the universe, but struggle as yet to keep a space station in orbit above the planet. But it will happen, when, eventually, the economic benefits out weigh the costs.
